Mums Orange and Yellow
Susan Giannantonio appreciates WAS-H as a community
of supportive, committed artists and values the positive energy and friendship she has found there. Susan joined WAS-H in 1996, served on the board of directors since 1998 and as president in 2000/2001. She was a member of the steering committee for Watermedia 2000, Watermedia 2003 and chairman of WAS-H’s capital campaign.
Educated in vocal performance, piano and violin, she began painting in Pennsylvania in the early 1980s. Moving to Houston, she studied at the Museum of Fine Arts Glassell School and has enjoyed painting classes taught by artists including Arne Westerman, Cheng-Khee Chee, Marilyn Hughey Phillis, Zoltan Szabo, Carla O’Connor, Judy Morris, Ann Pember, Robert McCoy, and sculpture with Willy (Wei-Li) Wang.
Her painting subjects range from objective portraiture, still life, floral and landscape to non-objective; from traditional transparent to experimental watermedia. She explores this variety of methods in an effort to maintain freshness and spontaneity in her work. Recent commissioned projects include commemorative notecards and annual giclee limited edition prints for the Hospice at the Texas Medical Center, and a commemorative cow for the Houston Cow Parade.
