Joanie Hughes, a native of the East Coast, has been a WAS-H member since 1981. Her foundation in art comes from the University of Maryland and studies with professional artists in Colorado, Maryland, Florida and Texas. Portraits of people and animals has become her signature. Transparent watercolor  has been labeled as being difficult, and she teaches a simplified approach to painting. She enjoys sharing the medium with students, especially beginners.
