Artist Statement
I cannot imagine my life without art any more than I can imagine a world without color! My first memory of the pleasure I receive from my art comes from when I was in the third grade.
As an artist, I sometimes see the world in a different way than most people do. I have come to really appreciate this fact. When I see flowers I don’t just see a pretty plant… I see gorgeous colors and flowing designs. When I see trees, I don’t see a mass of tall things that create a forest… I see patterns created when the light shines through, wonderful abstract shapes created by the spaces between the limbs as well as beautiful colors. When I see people, I see all the colors in the skin (not just the flesh color) and the way light falling on the planes of the face gives each person a unique and special look. I am fascinated by the way fabric folds and drapes, and the way the placement of one object can create an emotion in a painting. The challenge for me is to put all the things I see on a piece of paper in a manner so that others can sense the wonder and joy of the moment that inspired the painting.
My paintings reflect my love for vibrant colors and strong design elements. I am fascinated by how a single ray of light can create emotion, and seek to capture that feeling in my paintings. Through the use of rich colors and dynamic designs I try to draw the viewer into the painting and invite them to linger for a while.
I give thanks to our Creator for giving me the gift of seeing as an artist and the talent to actualize that vision as a work of art.
