Quiet Moments
1st Place

Robert Ruhmann
Quiet Afternoon in the Country
"I chose this piece because it perfectly captures the peace and beauty of the Texas countryside—something I’ve experienced many times myself. I’ve spent countless hours sitting in fields like this in South Texas, leaning against a fence post, simply watching life unfold around me: bees landing on cactus blooms, trees rustling softly in the wind, deer moving quietly through the grass, and birds gliding overhead. With no phone or distractions, just the stillness and the light, it’s a truly spiritual experience—a reminder of the serenity and wonder of God’s country. Ruhmann's painting brings all of that back for me, and that’s why it earned my top spot."

Judith Lucas The Wall, Which Window "I was immediately drawn to the texture of the painting—it’s rich and tactile—but what really connected me to it was my own time spent in San Miguel and traveling through New Mexico. The scene feels both quiet and vibrant, much like the adobe houses and historic structures I’ve admired in those regions. It reminds me of a moment in an old Western film—no dialogue, just the whisper of wind and the presence of history. There’s a stillness in it that invites you to slow down and truly see, rather than fill the silence. The painting captures that quiet beauty of culture, heritage, and time standing still." | 3rd Place
Charles Fried Misty Morning "This painting really spoke to me because it reminds me of the time I spent hiking in mountains like the Ozarks and the Pacific Northwest. The painting captures that cool, bright feeling of walking in the woods, where sunlight filters through the trees and the forest seems to come alive. I love how realistically the shrubs and trees are depicted—it makes me feel like I’m right there, breathing in the misty morning air." |
Honorable Mentions
![]() Alla Adams Hamburg's Gift at Houston Heights: The Lombard Lamp "I added it as an honorable mention because it feels like a step back in time to a very cultural part of Houston. I love Houston’s history—my family and I focus on preserving it through our business—so this painting really resonates with me. It captures a quiet moment in the city, beautifully gray and peaceful, perfectly fitting the theme." |

Larry Spitzburg Rolling Strength "This painting spoke to me. It reminds me of Sawyer Yards, where I spent a lot of time as a kid, and it brings to mind the history of the railroad and the surrounding communities. I love the way Larry brought this scene to life, so I had to include it as an honorable mention." |
