Do you see your art as a source of income? You may not be aware that there are other ways to sell your work besides the traditional ones (galleries, temporary exhibitions). Come enjoy a glass of wine and light snacks while learning about the commercial side of art. 

Ksenia Annis will talk about her experience of building an art business:

  • Finding your style and creating a body of work
  • Selling art -- retail vs. wholesale
  • Obtaining commissions, public art resources
  • Cooperation with art consultants

      Shahnaz Ghafoor, president of Sliver Chase Design, an art consulting and interior design company, will be an invited speaker.  She has a marketing and finance background and 10 years of experience in the business of art procurement and interior design.  She will discuss:

  • Who art consultants are buying art for
  • How they pick artists to work with
  • What specific mediums, styles, formats art consultants look for
  • Things art consultants do not want to hear from an artist
  • Why artists need a resume, a bio, and a statement (class exercise and statement reviews)

There will be a Q&A session at the end of class.
