Urban Sketching:

Just Jump In!

Richard Scruggs

Three Tuesday evenings

May 14, 21, & 28

6 pm - 9 pm

$180 Tuition/$150 Members

Jump into the exciting world of urban sketching! Whether you're on a vacation, a business trip, or just exploring your daily surroundings, this workshop is your ticket to connecting more deeply with the world around you.

In three evenings, we'll embark on a journey together to capture the essence of what fascinates you about your surroundings. No need to stress over perfection – we’ll guide you on a path that celebrates your unique perspective.

Our goal is to equip you with the skills and techniques to tell your personal story about the world you inhabit. This workshop embraces accuracy but doesn't tie you down to perfection, allowing you to convey the vibrant life of people and places you experience.

Through engaging discussions, inspiring examples, live demonstrations, and hands-on activities, you'll gain the confidence to start "sketching in the wild." Weather permitting, we'll take our creativity outdoors, exploring the neighborhood around WAS-H through plein air exercises. Plus, you'll get an introduction to the Urban Sketching community, connecting you

with like-minded artists and sketching opportunities from around the globe.

This class is designed for all skill levels – whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, a painter, or a doodler. Richard, an experienced watercolor painter, will guide you through his process, which applies seamlessly to various mediums like pen and ink, watercolor, gouache, markers, graphite, tablets, or a simple ballpoint pen.

Richard, with his watercolor expertise, has had his work showcased in juried shows, including the recent 47th annual International Watermedia Exhibition at WAS-H. Discover how his passion for urban sketching evolved from a quest to "see better" and improve his painting skills. Richard’s Sketching Galveston series was recently showcased in the January 2024 show at the Galveston Art League.  His sketchbook is now a constant companion on vacations, business trips, and local outings, showcasing the beauty of people and places.

Join us for an informative, collaborative, and fun introduction to the captivating world of urban sketching. Let's unlock your creativity and tell your story through art!
