Mixing water media can help an artist achieve a wide range of wonderful colors, textures and opacities. When collage is included in the mix, the options are endless! Weeks 1 thru 4 will equip the painter with a knowledge of materials and explore multiple ways to conceive and design a painting. Weeks 5 thru 8 will incorporate collage into the painting process. We will look at many accomplished artists’ work for inspiration. Homework is encouraged but not required. Critiques (optional) at the start of each class. 4 weeks: Collage, decollage, frottage, line & texture Week 1: Critique Materials demo acrylic mediums: Glues, thinners, textures Making collage papers demo: décalcomanie, gel plates Week 2: Critique Taking design to a new level: HC Dodd and découpage Week 3: Critique Demo: frottage, décollage Unique design method: Fast paced thumbnails -> collage Week 4: Critique Enhancing the collage: line, texture Creating stamps Consideration of scale and presentation Varnish & protecting work
