Portrait Rendering

Lenore Prudhomme

Three Hour Workshop

Friday, Oct 20

9 am- 12 pm

$60 Regular Tuition

$50 Member Tuition

In this workshop you will hone your ability to keenly observe what you see, learn the value of squinting and persistent relative visual measuring, and develop an insightful depiction of the portrait subject. You will utilize different materials to develop your own line quality and language. No

formula will be imposed, just keen observation.

There will be a discussion, then a 20-30-minute demonstration

using a live model, followed by individual instruction at each easel. Each

student will have an opportunity to complete three to four short-posed

portraits in charcoal and/or conte.

Principals taught in this workshop can be applied to figure drawing as

well.

This class will be held in the WAS-H classroom at 1601 W. Alabama St. Houston, TX 77006

Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Supply List:

1.  Paper: Stonehenge or Fabriano toned ground paper

Speckletone toned ground paper

2. Drawing board

3. Vine/ Willow Charcoal - forgiving. Soft produces a thicker line/stronger value. The lightest value and thinner line comes with the hard stick.

Smudge stick

4. Conte sticks or conte pencil- sienna and white

5. Black carbon pencil-Wolff’s

6. Kneaded eraser

7. Burnt sienna pan pastel

8. Pan pastel knife and soft covers

These are some of my favorite tools and not required. Please bring

anything you like to work with, but I do highly recommend a toned ground

paper for this particular workshop. It will serve as a halftone so that you

can quickly add shadows and highlights.
