Notan is a Japanese term that refers to the breakdown of an image into simple black and white.  Notanizer is a phone or tablet app that allows us to work with our image and perfect it before picking up a brush.  It takes the notan idea but uses 3-4 values instead of the simple black and white.  It allows manipulation of shapes and values to start our process with a solid image.  We will do a group project and then work on individual compositions, focusing on creating good shapes, mixing correct values, bringing those paintings to a solid finish.
