Art with Heart: September 17
On September 17, we’ll gather with watercolor paper, pens, and a shared purpose: to create small paintings that carry big love.
Diann will bring postcard-sized watercolor paper and pens (for the in-person class participants only), and together we’ll trace simple designs, layer joyful colors, and add ink embellishments. These mini masterpieces will be mailed to a low-income senior center in Phoenix, where Diann’s friend volunteers. The residents there rarely receive visitors—and even more rarely, something handmade just for them.
Each postcard will be tucked into a cardstock easel frame, so it’s ready to display the moment it’s received—a little gallery of kindness on every bedside table.
Our goal: 50 postcards for 50 residents. Every painting, a reminder that someone is thinking of them.
Supplies: bring your usual watercolor paints, brushes, paper towels, and any pens you'd like to use. Diann will have postcard paper (for in-person participants only), printed outlines, micron waterproof pens, acrylic pens, gel pens, all kinds of fun things to enhance our paintings.
Plan to join from home? We’d love to include your artwork too! Create a postcard-sized painting (4” x 6”) using any medium you love, and mail it to:

Diann Zimmerman’s journey into art began in 2018 after a traumatic brain injury left her searching for relief. What started as a way to ease physical pain soon became something much deeper—a source of healing, joy, and connection. Through art, she discovered not only comfort but a calling.
Today, Diann is a thriving artist, educator, and founder of Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond, a vibrant Facebook group of over 340,000 artists from every corner of the globe. Her teachings—shared through Patreon and online challenges—are filled with warmth, encouragement, and a belief in fearless creativity.
Her mission is simple yet powerful: to empower artists of all skill levels to explore their creativity with courage and kindness, building a global community where artistic growth is nurtured through compassion, inspiration, and shared knowledge.
Her art—often playful, bold, and fearless—is a reflection of the optimism she brings to everything she does, from brushstroke to community leadership.
This weekly event is a community outreach to seniors 55+ only
