Seasoned artists and teachers will tell you that their biggest breakthrough came when they began applying design concepts into their paintings. Early in our painting life we all struggle to copy nature as we see it. Painting becomes a lot of work with little reward. What's missing is an understanding of design. Design concepts are logical, learnable, and once you have them they'll be evident in every painting you paint.
